Until recently, Dean worked for the Canberra-based Super 15 franchise, Brumbies Rugby as the Athletic Performance Director, where he coordinated athletic performance, sports science, recovery and rehabilitation.
Prior to this Dean had a period where he worked as an elite performance consultant with Australian Sports Commission, Adelaide Crows, Canon Rugby (Japan) and as an athletic performance coach for 2008 Olympic champion swimmer, Stephanie Rice as part of Stephanie’s 2010 Commonwealth Games preparation.
Before Dean used Kinetic-Athlete, he had devised customed-made software (Brisbane Broncos in 2008-2009), but it did not have the same portability or ease of data entry as Kinetic-Athlete. One of the main work challenges Dean found was the ability to analyse data and to get athletes to enter feedback. With Kinetic-Athlete, athletes can enter feedback remotely and there is the added incentive that the platform is iOS (iPhone/iPad etc.) compatible.
Dean believes that the Kinetic-Athlete system is easier and cleaner to use than anything currently existing. Importantly the company (Kinetic Performance) which make Kinetic-Athlete are very willing to modify the software to their needs.
Currently Dean is using Kinetic-Athlete with Rugby and swimming athletes. Dean has also worked as the Physical Performance Director for the Brisbane Broncos, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for English Rugby Club, Leicester Tigers and has worked with the Wallabies, Queensland Academy of Sport, Australian Institute of Sport and many other elite sport programs. Dean currently serves as a faculty member of the Gambetta Athletic Improvement Network.
